EL VIAJE MÁS APASIONANTE

Reproduzco el discurso que tantos nervios me hizo pasar.
Se trataba de un momento especial para mi hermana y no quería fallarle. Se le echó valor y pude superar la prueba. Espero estar más tranquilo la proxima vez...

La celebración de esta noche constituye un singular homenaje a este mundo global y cosmopolita que permite que una asturiana y un escocés caigan atrapados por las redes del amor en la hermosa, y ya no tan lejana para nadie, ciudad de la luz o que dos familias separadas por diferentes tradiciones lenguas y miles de kilómetros de distancia vengan a descubrir aquí en Gijón, al borde de una costa bañada por un mismo océano, lo mucho que les une en realidad y puedan compartir todos juntos, emociones, sentimientos e ilusiones comunes.

La Eva aún niña que jugaba a la comba o al cascallo en el barrio del Carmen y que recuerdo con total nitidez, la intrépida adolescente que decide irse a América en busca de nuevos horizontes, la inteligente universitaria que tras acabar sus estudios anhela nuevos estímulos y se deja seducir por el hechizo de París es hoy una joven reposada pero desenvuelta, tranquila pero curiosa, sobria pero moderna, austera pero elegante, independiente pero ilusionada por compartir el azaroso viaje de la vida con un inmejorable compañero, viajero infatigable, divertido, espontáneo, al que le unen valores, anhelos e inquietudes comunes y con el que se dispone con alegría contagiosa a afrontar los retos más estimulantes.

Tonight’s event celebrates the wonder of a world that allows a young asturian woman and a scotsman to meet and fall in love in Paris, the city of light. A union, which just a few years ago was an unimaginable dream uniting 2 families, which were previously separated by a different language,culture and thousands of miles between them, to come together, here in Gijon. 2 families who are in reality bonded by the same ocean allowing them to experience together the same emotions, feelings and dreams.

I remember a young girl, skipping or playing hopscotch in the street outside our house and I remember a brave young teenager deciding to exchange this beautiful coast for the plains of America in search of her new horizons, I remember the intelligent university graduate after finishing her studies burning with ambition for new challenges in Paris.

Today, I see my sister as a young woman, strong but caring, calm but inquisitive, traditional but modern, austere but elegant, independant but looking forward to taking the next step in her life with her perfect partner, a man who I see as a tireless traveller, funny, spontaneous who will share her aspirations and confrontations who will be at her side to share all their special moments
